The Lettermen

September 13, 2003

The '60's and early '70's saw The Lettermen score 20 charting hit singles, including "Theme From 'A Summer Place'" (No. 16, 1965, from the Sandra Dee/Troy Donahue film), "Goin' Out of My Head/Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (No. 7, 1968, the first hit record ever to completely integrate two songs as one) and "Hurt So Bad (No. 12, 1969).

The Lettermen toured with George Burns, Jack Benny and Bob Hope; performed on bills with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra. Bill Cosby, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Sam Cooke, and Sammy Davis, Jr.; appeared several times on television's "The Ed Sullivan Show," and were regulars on "The Red Skelton Show."

1940's Musical Review

The music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Erskin Hawkins, The Andrews Sisters, Frank Sinatra, and more. More than a concert, IN THE MOOD is a Big Band Theatrical Swing Revue.

In The Mood began as a celebration of an unusual era in American music, the 1940's.....the Swing Era. On radio, in theaters and ballrooms, the Big Bands were drawing record crowds. Vocal groups and soloists sang a repertory of great songs, and for the last time in this century, the entire country shared a common popular music.   More...

 

Crazy Love

If you think your love life is crazy, take a peek into the mind of John Branyan, whose 90-minute show "Crazy Love" is at the Kentucky Theater on weekends through Nov. 2. It's a humorous look at life when two people get together in the name of love.

After all, to quote a line in the show, "Every relationship has a little insanity."

Branyan delivers a hilarious, energetic performance. He's a bit like a straight version of author David Sedaris, and anyone who has ever been in the dating game, gotten married, had children or learned to ski will find that it hits frighteningly close to home. More...

Impeccably arranged vocals; layered harmonies; instrumental and vocal versatility, and strong ties to the local church-- these are the hallmarks of GLAD. GLAD, the band, began on the campus of West Chester State University near Philadelphia, PA in the early '70's.

Formed as a progressive Christian rock band with classical/jazz leanings and an emphasis on complex vocals, GLAD has always borrowed from a wide range of musical genres.  More...

The Trinity Irish Dance Company quickly dispels whatever notions you may have about Irish dance. Founded in 1990 by Artistic Director Mark Howard as a means of providing professional career opportunities to students who formerly had no outlet for their dance training beyond the competitive circuit, this innovative nonprofit company is constantly searching for original means of expression while maintaining a high regard for old traditions.   More...


5th Dimension

Original members Florence LaRue and Lamonte McLemore, along with Greg Walker, Willie Williams, and Van Jewell have put together a show with great sound and crowd pleasing nostalgia.  Five time Grammy Award winning group, the 5th Dimension, is one of the most popular singing groups in the world.  They have released over a dozen hit albums and received 14 gold records.  Their classics include such hits as:  Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, One Less Bell to Answer, The Worst that Could Happen, This is Your Life, Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned Solid Picnic, and Go Where You Wanna Go.    More...

 

 

Eulenspiegel Puppets:
Hansel and Goosel

Hansel and Goosel, two half-grown goslings are feeling displaced because their mother is sitting on a new batch of eggs.  They are trapped by a fox in the woods.  Goosel outsmarts the fox and saves her brother.  When they return home, their parents are delighted to see them.  The production features 15 puppets of varying styles and sizes, including rod marionettes, rod puppets, and a large marionette aporté, fox.  Eulenspiegel puppets are known for their original scripts, whimsical scenery and beautifully crafted puppets.  See the puppets bring this tale full circle with the arrival of two new baby goslings at the end.   More...

The Giving Tree

Bravo, Amelia Bedelia

In Bravo, Amelia Bedelia, that wacky Amelia Bedelia ends up playing practically every musical instrument in the orchestra and becomes the surprise hit of the school concert. As readers of the "Amelia Bedelia" books know, this housekeeper takes everything literally. For instance, when Mrs. Rogers tells her to go to the train station and pick up the music conductor, Amelia responds, "I tried my best, but he was too big for me to pick up." Similar mix-ups
occur. For example, when the conductor referring to musical instruments asks, "Do you play?", Amelia says, "I play ever)' day."  More...
